Ferocactus
The generic name was chosen due to the strength of the spines, which grow from a prominent rib structure.
The shape can be either globular or starts as globular but its height grow faster than its diameter. Generally they're solitary but some do happily cluster.
Mine aren't matured so no flowers but those that do have them in rings near the apex.
In wild, the location is from southwestern USA to the west of Mexico.
I'm fairly confident this is Ferocactus histrix, which comes from Mexico.

Unsure if this is within the Ferocactus family but I thought I'll show it here. This grew from a seed I planted.
