'Admiral' Gunboat Competition III

Vertaling

Zoals ook al staat in de Regels zal 'Admiral' III Engels als voertaal hanteren. De officiële start-mail wordt hierbij echter vertaald door dezelfde mensen die ook de Regels hebben vertaald. Dank daarvoor!

Het wordt aangeraden de orders volledig uit te schrijven, dus niet de afkortingen. Schrijf dus Army (Leger) Liverpool - Yorkshire i.p.v. A(Lpl) - Yor. De reden is dat er soms verkeerde afkortingen gebruikt worden. Wanneer je de namen van de gebieden niet in het Engels kent, klik dan op Verschillende Talen, daar kan je de gebieden in je eigen taal naast het Engels zien staan.

Voor degenen die de startkaart of de kaart met de (juiste) afkortingen wil zien, ze staan hieronder.


Introduction

De wachtlijst is gesloten op 31 januari 2007, met een deelnemersveld van 175 spelers in 'Admiral' III, waarbij uiteindelijk de winnaar tot:

Vergeet niet, Gunboat is een anoniem spel en zoals ook staat in de regels: Het is NIET toegestaan te onderhandelen met andere spelers, behalve d.m.v. je orders. Wanneer je er per ongeluk achter komt wie je medespeler is, praat niet met hem/haar over het spel. Wanneer je dat wel doet en we komen erachter, dan wordt je uit de competitie geknikkerd..


De loting

Mijn zoon Graeme en ik hebben de loting verricht voor de kwartfinale. We hebben dezelfde methode gebruikt als in eerdere edities van 'Admiral'.

De namen van de spelers gingen in een grote hoed en de eerst getrokken speler kreeg Oostenrijk (Austria) in het eerste spel Albion. De tweede speler kreeg Engeland, de derde Frankrijk, de vierde Duitsland (Germany), dan Italië, Rusland en Turkije.

Dit proces ging door totdat de laatste speler in de hoed werd ingedeeld als Turkije in Zenta, de laatste kwartfinale.


Namen van de spellen

De spellen zijn genoemd naar marineschepen die ooit werden gebruikt door de zeven Grootmachten. Zoals je weet begint Diplomacy in 1901, maar niet alle schepen waren toen actief, ze voeren ergens in de 20e eeuw.

Wanneer Engels niet je moedertaal is en je hebt het gevoel dat mijn spelling van de vaartuigen niet klopt, mijn excuses. Ik heb ze uit Engelse boeken en van het Internet gehaald, dat verklaart het hopelijk.


Spelleiders (GMs)

In de hieronderstaande tabel is de derde kolom gereserveerd voor de GM's.

Binnenkort mail ik de GMs de details van hun spellen door. Het kan nog wel even duren voordat zij hun zaken op orde hebben om de spellen te leiden. Wacht even met mailen totdat je toegewezen GM je zelf mailt. Als je binnen 5 dagen niks hebt gehoord, neem dan contact met mij op.

Ik heb het volste vertrouwen in mijn GMs en dus wordt er gespeeld volgens de regel "De GM heeft het laatste woord."


De weg van de kwartfinale naar de finale

Gezien het aantal spelers zullen er 25 kwartfinales zijn, 7 halve finales en de finale.

Zoals ook in de Regels staat, zullen 25 spelers op plaats 1, + 24 beste spelers op plaats 2 samen de 49 spelers vormen voor de halve finale. De zeven winnaars van de halve finales plaatsen zich voor de finale.

Wanneer je je afvraagt hoe het zit met de volgorde van spelers op plaats 2, lees de Regels er op na. Ze zijn vertaald in verscheidene talen.

Namen Beschrijving van de schepen GM
Albion
Gebouwd in 1898 in Blackwall, oost Londen. Ze werd te water gelaten op 21 juni, maar er gebeurde een vreselijk ongeluk. Wanneer een schip in het water glijdt komt er een golf, maar de golf veroorzaakt door de Albion zorgde ervoor dat een stellage met zo'n 200 toeschouwers erop instortte. 34 van hen verdronken, waaronder vele vrouwen en kinderen. Bersagliere
This Italian destroyer was launched on 2nd October 1902. She was in the Soldati Artigliere class. The destroyer server her country until the day she was scrapped after 1923. Ally Bain

Chanzy
Towards the end of the 19th Century, France wanted their navy to have enough ships so that if they went to war against Britain, they could compete with the Royal Navy. This was an Amiral Charner (Admiral in English) armoured cruiser class launched in January 1894. In May 1907, she grounded herself & all attempts to re-float her failed. She became a wreck. Ally Bain

Duilio
Launched on 24th April 1913, this Italian battleship was reconstructed between 1937 – 1940 & her name was slightly re-named to Caio Duilio. In September 1956, she was removed from naval list. Doug Stewart

Emden
In WWI, U-9 & this cruiser were the only ships to earn the Iron Cross. In honour Emden’s crew were allowed to add the ship’s name to their surnames. Jan Willem Omlo

Gangut
The name was also the title for these Russian battleship classes. Launched in October 1911 it was re-named in May 1925 to Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya. In 1959, she was scrapped. Doug Stewart

Hessen
This German battleship was in the Braunschweig Class & was the only one of its kind to be present at the Battle of Jutland in WWI. It not only survived that battle but also WWI. She was turned into a radio controlled target ship. She was involved in WWII & at the end of that war; she was taken over by the Soviet Navy. In the early 60s, she was scrapped. Ally Bain

Highflyer
This British cruiser went to sea in 1897 & in 1914 she discovered & sank the German armed liner Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, off Spanish Saharan waters. Doug Stewart

Izmail

Jaureguiberry
Built in La Seyne the French battleship was launched in 1893 & completed in 1897. Fore & aft, she was armed with single 12" guns together single 10.8" guns on either beam. She was scrapped in 1934. Ally Bain

Königsberg
On the 12th December 1905, this light cruiser was launched. At the start of WWI, she was patrolling German East Africa. During WWI, she struck many British ships & sank the City of Winchester. In July 1915, she was scuttled but its cannon was rescued by the Germans & used for a long time against British & colonial troops in East African campaign. Ally Bain

Lion
At the Battle of Dogger Bank, January 1915, this boat was the Royal Navy's flagship. Three German battle cruisers concentrated their fire at her & when eventually damaged, Rear-Admiral Beatty transferred his flag to Princess Royal. Kester Bearne

Medjidieh
This Turkish cruiser was originally named Abdul Mecid but renamed in the same year it was launched, 1903. She & other Turkish ships were sailing towards Odessa to bombard it however, 15 miles from the target she sailed into a mine & sank. The Russians salvaged, re-built & named her Prut. Later in that World War, Germany captured the cruiser & soon in May 1918, she was returned to Turkey. There was another major re-build in 1927 & finally in 1948, she was broken up for scrap. Messudieh
She was launched in October 1874. At beginning of WWI, the Turks used her as a stationary guard ship near Chanak in the Dardanelles. On December 1914 a British submarine sank her. Andy Scott

During WWI, the Royal Navy used certain ex-Merchant Navy ships & designed them to look like battleships or Battlecruisers. This was re-furbished to look like Vanguard. Andy Scott

Radetzky
Launched on 3rd July 1909, this Austrian-Hungary battleship was used in the British Coronation Review in 1911. During WWI, she was involved in shelling the batteries of Montenegran. At the end of the war, she was ceded to Italy & in 1920 was scrapped. Doug Stewart

Pisa
Completed in September 1909, this Italian armoured cruiser was re-classed as a coastal battleship in July 1921. It was also used as a training ship. Kester Bearne

Samsun

Tegetthoff
This Austrian-Hungarian battleship was again, like their sisters, built to match the Italian naval growth. Launched on 31st March 1912, it was scrapped at La Spezia in 1924-25. Ally Bain

Triton
Launched in July 1901 the cost of this, & the other French Sirene class subs, was £24,700 each. She was stricken in November 1919. Andy Scott

This German light cruiser was one of ten Gazelle class & she was launched on 11th December 1902. Sailing in the Baltic Sea, on the 7th November 1914, she was torpedoed & sunk by the British sub, E-19. Ally Bain

Wien
To those who cannot translate the defence ship’s name, it is Vienna in English. This ship was in the Monarch class & on the 10th December 1917, it was torpedoed by an Italian motor boat, MAS.9. The ship was about to bombard the Italian coast when they were hit. Thankfully, the crew did survive. Jan Willem Omlo

Zenta
Launched in August 1897 it sailed until August 1914 when two shells, from a French Battleship in southern Adriatic Sea, hit this Austrian-Hungarian scout cruiser & very soon, she sank. Ally Bain

Queen Mary
The British battleship was launched in 20th March 1912. In WWI, she was involved in the Battle of Dogger Bank & the Battle of Jutland. At the Battle of Jutland, the German ships Seydlitz & Derfflinger repeatedly hit her, which meant she sank. The loss was immense with only nine survivors out of the 1,266 crew. Ally Bain

San Giorgio

This Austria/Hungary battleship’s name, in English, is St Stephen & it was launched in 17th January 1914. On June 1918, the Italian MAS.15 torpedoed the ship. Ally Bain

Kaart met afkortingen

De donkerder kleuren representeren de stippen, je ziet dus dat in Oostenrijk-Hongarije de gebieden Wenen (Vienna), Boedapest en Triest donkerder gekleurd zijn dan Galicië, Bohemen en Tirol.
