'Admiral' Gunboat Competition III

February Update

To those that have recently been to the site, ALB & GSB, you might have noticed that the picture for 'Admiral' has changed. I saw something in a pine shop & thought that was ideal for this competition so I bought the thing & at home I took a pix of it.

I was meant to tell you, in last month's update, that David Wigglesworth produced some Stats based on the Quarter-Finals. Well worth a read so if you click on the following link & within that you'll see a link to the page. David, thanks again for doing it & I'm waiting for your Stats for I & II.

To those that have read Dip2000 Message Board, you might have read the post written by Pete Smith but either way, this is a copy/paste:
There are reports in the IT press that Hotmail is playing up both here in the UK and in the USA, so send in orders early in case you are effected.

Out of all of them, when a player uses Hotmail I'll guarantee a problem will arise. As you might have gathered, in my Address Book, I group the players in a game & I call that group the name of the game, e.g. in the Quarters, all players in Izmail were grouped & that group was known as Izmail. As for e-mails, I Bcc that group & in this example, Izmail. As for the problem I think it's the attached map so hence the reason why I sent two e-mails, one with the map & the other without. Either way, moving back to Pete's post, I suggest all players send their orders to whomever. Fast orders are a good practice & in normal games & to those that play on a site that allows it, early Provisional Orders means you're unlikely to NMR.

To those of you that do understand C# & ASP, you're about to have a big laugh towards me.

Before I go on, to those that don't understand C# & ASP a very brief description is that both are related to Web sites & used to improve the site in looks & design, etc. (To those that do understand C# & ASP, alright the description isn't good but is brief ). As for ASP (which is the same with other Diplomacy sites), if you go to the Games page on ALB & GSB & then click on a game, the way in which the game is shown is the use of some ASP codes.

Anyway, back to the laugh against me but first the reason behind it. Regarding those of us that GMd the Quarters, only Doug doesn't GM on Dip2000. JW & Andy did say to me that the way in which we adjudicate 'Admiral' needs to be changed to make it easier for them. Up until last summer, the way in which the GMs had to do certain things for 'Admiral' games isn't too far of Dip2000 however the later had a programme designed for it & from what I'm about to gather, the time that a GM needs to spend on adjudicating is less time than then. As for me & books on C#, I'm trying to learn it & from what see if I can sort something out for IV. The laugh is two parts with the first being that before I've read half-way a page, I'm asleep. The second was that I couldn't understand that I've just read & before you wonder, in 1985 I obtained a HNC in Computer Science even though I left the computer industry in 1987 (to those that are unaware of HNC, it's a grade up from A levels but below a degree). Either way, I should be getting the book about ASP so hopefully the first page is readable to me & it'll not make me fall asleep, I hope!

To the games & so far, two have finished with a good number to do so next week.

Cap Trafalgar - S10 - (Andy Scott)
France - 5. Germany - 12. Turkey - 17.

Hayreddin Barbarossa - S10 - (Doug Stewart)
Austria-Hungary - 4. England - 4. France - 4. Germany - 9. Italy - 2. Russia - 8. Turkey - Anarchy.

Jean Bart - A10 - (JW)
Émile Francois Loubet did the solo.

Pamiat Azova - A10 - (JW)
England - 10. France - 7. Russia - 1. Turkey - 16.
Due to orders shown in S10 & A10, I feel a stalemate line has been developed & therefore I decided to show an End Game Proposal (EGP) with that being a four-way draw. It's up to players to vote.

Queen Mary - S11 - (Andy Scott)
Austria-Hungary - 3. Germany - 14. Italy - 10. Turkey - 7.

San Giorgio - A10 - (JW)
Nicolas II grabbed his 18SCs.

Szent Istvan - S12 - (Andy Scott)
Austria-Hungary - 10. England - 1. France - 16. Germany - 2. Turkey - 5.

To all players in the Semi, please write an End Game Statement (EGS) & let me have it. If before hand you want a bit of help, an article was written by Martyn Webster & it's shown on the Articles in the Diplomacy part of ALB & GSB.
