'Admiral' Gunboat Competition III
July Update
If anyone has torn their medial collateral ligament (MLC), I know how it felt as I did mine, left knee, on the 15th May & I'm still off work & unlikely to go back for a while. That was bad news however one has to turn negative things to positives, so what have I done.
I did learn the basics of ASP & wrote codes so that games will look better on site & to make sure I got it right, I asked a group of reprobates to play in a couple of variants games, Crowded Gunboat & Double Gunboat Diplomacy. By the looks, all is fine & so too those games, even though perhaps not for some players. To add to that, about two-weeks ago I finally managed to get another site with an address that is easy to remember, www.alb-gsb.com.
Based on that, where is ALB & GSB going?
Well, Dip2000, is a great site & I'm not planning to move into their direction. From what I gather Stabbeurfou is going great-guns (as long as they don't shot down that Wonderful Mansion) so not getting into that however the area I want to work towards are Diplomacy variants plus non-Diplomacy games. Be a wee bit like the former Psychopath (PsychoCon is Sept 20th-21st in Leeds). (BTW it doesn't mean normal Diplomacy can't be played there but perhaps just invitational ones).
By going on site you can see a few variant games & yes they will increase but not along the lines of just adding games for fun. It's annoying to see players sitting waiting for games to start & I'll be doing my best to make sure that doesn't happen. The question is though, how is that done? Some of you will know, it's GMs!
Like any competition, things can go tits-up if there aren't enough GMs & thankfully a good number of Diplomacy friends of mine, who are GMs, have stepped to the plate & ran a good number of 'Admiral' games. Intimate Diplomacy (ALB & GSB hosts it & Carl Hanich is the chief organiser) has the same logic.
If you're a GM & would like to run a game, let me know. The ins & outs of putting games on site & others things can be discussed. If you're not a GM but would be pleased to become one, let me know & I'll put the wheels in motion.
One final part, about games on new ALB & GSB, is reducing the time GMs need to spend on individual games by removing certain aspects of it. I can't give a time-scan on that as currently I'm not really working on it but soon I'll be drawing up proposals & with hope I'll find a quick, effective & spot-on solution.
BTW don't think the above will cause a problem for 'Admiral' IV. I've got plans for increasing the numbers for that competition (players & GMs) but I'll bring them up next month so let's go to the III final game.
Good Hope - A06 - (Doug Stewart)
Austria-Hungary - 6. England - 0. France - 9. Germany - 6. Italy - 0. Russia - 6. Turkey - 7.Heck of a battle on that game & to see it, go to the Games Page & you'll see a link to it.
