English, Serbian (Latin & Cyrillic), others to hopefully follow
As mentioned, this page isn't complete but I thought to show it. I've decided to use both the Israeli langauges however as soon as I've got other langauges, I'll place them here. If you're able to show any language that isn't shown on this page & the others, please let me know.
The Serbian languages were sent to me by Milan Bujić. Instead of adding anything myself, Milan's intro is copy/paste to here:
Hello, I came accros your page about different languages in Diplomacy so i figured since I cant sleep and dont have anything better to do might as well write a translation to serbian. Anyway here it is, there is no serbian version of the board (as far as i know) so i translated it. I hope the format is ok for you. I copied the english version from your page then just added translation. First translation is in latin and the second one in cyrilic. If you would like any other information please let me know, I will be more then happy to give it. I saw you have a short guide to Hebrew, if you would like it, I could make a similar thing for Cyrilic, when i get some free time. All in all, it is a very interesting page, spent an hour browsing it, keep up the good work.

Milan, thanks for e-mailing them to me. Graeme put them on site by copy/paste Milan's e-mails. Below the table you'll see Milan explaining the Cyrillic language.

As written above, this is Milan explaining Cyrillic letters, etc:
Hello,
Here it is, its not perfect, but I did my best.
First of all its important to understand that every letter in serbian language is read in exactly the same way no matter where it is in a word. A is always an A etc.
Second there are some letters that don`t exist in alphabet: Ш, Ђ, Ч, Ћ, Ж, Љ, Њ and Џ, but we do not have X, Y and Q.
Here is the list of all our letters, first column is in Latin second in Cyrilic. For those interested there is a phonetic listing of the letters on wiki, I will not write it here, as I don`t want to use their work and I never learned how to (correctly) use phonetics. What I will do is write a word in which a letter (or two) is capitalized. The way that letter (capital) is read, is the same way to read the letter listed. Remember every letter is always read in exactly the same way.
A a А а -bAnana
B b Б б - Banana
V v В в - Version
G g Г г - Grand
D d Д д - Dragon
Đ đ Ђ ђ - similar to Giant only much softer
E e Е е - dEsert
Ž ž Ж ж - Geneva
Z z З з - Zebra
I i И и - Image
J j Ј ј - Yes
K k К к - Car
L l Л л - Like
Lj lj Љ љ - between L and J
M m М м - Mongol
N n Н н - Nile
Nj nj Њ њ - dNIeper (a river in eastern Europe)
O o О о - Oregon
P p П п - Price
R r Р р - Report
S s С с - Sister
T t Т т - Tiger
Ć ć Ћ ћ - something between C and J, very soft.
U u У у - pUt
F f Ф ф - France
H h Х х - Holland
C c Ц ц - between T and Z (tz)
Č č Ч ч - CHocolate
Dz dz Џ џ - Giant
Š š Ш ш - SHamanFirst thing you might noticed was that some of the letters are written as a combination of two letters. Those are Nj and Lj. However this is only the case in Latin, as in Cyrilic those letters are Њ and Љ respectably. Note that Cyrilic is primarily used, but Latin has seen rapid increase in usage.
Regards,
MilanMilan, thanks!
These are what Tal mentioned to me:
First of all, keep in mind that Hebrew is spelled Right to Left and not Left to Right…
In Hebrew, the vowels are marked by small symbols over or under the words if needed (though nobody uses them actually) there are letters for I/O/U which are sometimes used, and another 2 letters for A/E which may be used only at the end of a word..
Now for the Letters, if I write 2 letters on some places, it’s because Hebrew got “final letters” and this means those letters are written differently when they come at the end of a word… (So ך, ם, ן, ף, ץ may appear only at the end of the word and are the same as the letter next to them).
English Equivilant Hebrew Letter (Hard to explain this letter) It’s not a vowel, but it sounds like you will say A/E/I/O/U with no constant before it… א B/V ב G, if it has an apostrophe after it, it’s J ג D ד H, or as A/E if it’s at the END of the word ה V/W as constant, O/U as a vowel ו Z ז That’s a hard one, maybe a bit like G in Dutch… ח T ט Y, or I if used as a vowel י K or, like the Scottish ch in words like Loch כ, ך L ל M מ, ם N נ, ן S ס a bit like א (the 1st letter) But not quite.. there is no equivilant to it in any language known to civilised people ע P/F פ, ף TZ (the sound you get when saying it, like in Frentzen), with an apostrophe after it, it’s like CH צ, ץ K ק R ר S/SH ש T/TH ת Those are the letters (Now try reading!)
Some more useful information: ה at the beginning of a word (Ha) is the same as “The”
Common words there: ים (Yam) = Sea אוקיינוס (Okyanus) = Ocean מיפרץ (Mifratz) = Gulf תעלה (Teala( = Channel צפון (Tzafon) = North (Tzfoni = Northern, Add I / י to the following directions will do the same) דרום (Darom) = South מזרח (Mizrakh) = East מערב (Ma’arav) = West מרכז (Merkaz) = Centre
Again, thanks to Tal for explaining.
