Waiting List Requirements

Introduction

This article is mainly aimed as those wanting to play on an Internet site.

When you have decided to have a game you usually enter by signing up onto the Waiting List. During this you'll have to decide a few things but in some cases those can be left blank.

NMR & Anarchy

As you may have read it or seen the link to it, NMRs are a critical part, which never needs to be done. You must consider how long the game lasts & stick with it until you're out or the game has finished. By moving into anarchy, you would have upset all people involved with the game including the site & you 're likely to be banned from playing another game.

Weekly Deadlines

These are the gaps between orders, etc, being adjudicated. Due to your other commitments you can decide which deadline will match your requirements. Usually they are 1, 2 & 3 weeks however some are monthly.

Prior to putting your name on a Waiting List you must consider the length of the game. If you feel you might not be able to continue for that length of time, then don't sign-up. If that is the case however you do want to play, try & locate F-F games in your area.

As an example, one-week could last for six months & two-weeks could last for a year. Obviously if your country is beaten, you're more or likely out sooner than the game finished.

Name & E-mail Address

Nicknames are usually not accepted. As you know, I'm called Ally, which can be classed as a nickname however that is accepted.

A number of people have more than one e-mail address therefore only one is used in these games otherwise it would be unfair for those involved.

Preferred Countries

During this you can list your preference list for countries. Preference list means the countries you would rather play however if can be done in reverse, i.e. you wish not to play one or more countries. Even though you have done this, it does not guarantee your first choice would be the one you are going to play.

For being asked about preferred countries there are a number of reasons. I can't remember the year but in one I've played Austria-Hungary, Germany & Italy once, France twice & Russia & Turkey three times. I suspect you would have guessed whom I would prefer to play & the two, which I would not wish to play.

Dependant on the site you are going to play, some use an automatic questionnaire but others are simply an e-mail to the person organising the list. If you have to write an e-mail the following gives examples of the way you can provide your list:

Confirmation

Again due to the site, e.g. Dip2000, some require eight players to clarify their intent to play with the first seven shown being the ones that do play if they agree. If not, then the eight listed will play if he & the other six confirmed. If seven players didn't confirm, the process starts again with replacements taking over those that didn't confirm.

Other sites only need seven on the list & they're sent to the GM who then writes for clarification & the preferred countries.

For the games played on this site, the minimum number is required however the allocation of countries are random & picked out by the GM. To go to the Waiting List, click here.

As soon as the players have confirmed, the GM will allocate the players' countries & then send a Game Start to the players & also on the site.
