Todd's comments, "Everybody gets their first choice. Three of the games will involve neighbour powers while the 4th will be a showdown from opposite sides of the Med".

Steve's comments, "What a blockbuster opening to this year's League with plenty of neighbourly scraps to ensure immediate action. Russia & Austria each stars in 3 of the 4 games; twice against each other. Brian's (Russia) will take on Jon (Austria) and Josh (Russia) will line up against Greg (Austria). These matches are always tense with two of the strongest Countries of Diplomacy in play. Jonathan (France) will take on Todd (Russia) in one that allows a bit more breathing space for a coordinated strategy. Lastly, Michael (Turkey) will head up against Graeme (Austria) in yet another tight affair - this one is all about the Balkans".

Round 2 - Division 1 - 14th Oct 2011
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Richard France Jim Turkey Steve
Brian France Kester Austria-Hungary Carl
Steve Austria-Hungary James Turkey Greg
Ally Austria-Hungary Carl England Richard

Todd's comments; "Since this is a round with players from opposite sides, there was suspiciously little overlap in preferences. Everybody gets their first choice. 3 of the 4 matchups see Austria in play as well".

Round 2 - Division 2 - 14th Oct 2011
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Brian Austria-Hungary Graeme England Steve
Jon Turkey Josh England Carl
Jonathan Russia Greg Italy Richard
Todd Austria-Hungary Michael Italy Steve

Steve's comments; "A potpourri of match-ups this round. Game 1 sees central Austria versus distant England. Enough time to develop strategy, but not too long else the stalemate line gets drawn. Game 2 pushes this further, with Turkey against England. Lately a couple of victories have ensued in this pairing, so a draw is not a foregone conclusion. The 3rd match is one of the games classics, strategic Italy up against the might of Russia; this will be a real pleasure to watch. Lastly, the biggest brawl of all where punches are never pulled. Austria takes on Italy in Game 4. No doubt neighbourly love will be in short supply".

Round 3 - Division 1 - 11th Nov 2011
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Richard England Steve Russia Greg
Brian Austria-Hungary Ally France Carl
Kester Germany Carl Turkey Richard
James Austria-Hungary Jim England Steve

Todd's comments; "6 of the 8 first-choices start with a vowel, but only 4 of the 8 countries to be played start with a vowel. Kester and Carl bounce in a race to the boot and fall back to Germany and Turkey to face off. The other three matchups span more of the board, with F or E featuring in each game and A or R as their opponents. But no duplications of matchups in that mix".

Round 3 - Division 2 - 11th Nov 2011
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Brian France Jonathan Germany Carl
Jon Italy Todd France Steve
Josh Italy Michael Russia Richard
Greg Germany Graeme Italy Steve

Steve's comments, "Italy, France and Germany feature prominently this round. All three permutations are up: France v Germany; Germany v Italy; and Italy v France. All three pairings are usually tense and brutal from the start. The fourth pairing sees Italy up again, this time against the mighty Russia. One of the classic pairings that never disappoints. All four games this round will be tough and tight and none should produce the dreaded draw".

Round 4 - Division 1 - 1st Jan 2012
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Richard Turkey Ally Germany Carl
Brian England Steve Turkey Richard
Kester Turkey Jim Germany Steve
James England Carl Russia Greg

Todd's comments; "Three turkey matchups with powers on the diagonal and then 1 northern face off to round out the quartet".

Round 4 - Division 2 - 1st Jan 2012
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Brian Germany Todd Turkey Greg
Jon France Jonathan Turkey Richard
Josh Turkey Graeme Germany Steve
Greg Turkey Michael Germany Steve

Steve's comments; "Three of the four games feature Germany up against Turkey. This pairing has already made a few showings in IDVI and it's always an intriguing match. The fourth game sees France up against Turkey, another popular choice for this year".

Round 5 - Division 1 - 1st Feb 2012
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Richard Russia Kester Italy Carl
Brian Turkey James Italy Steve
Steve Germany Carl Italy Richard
Ally Russia Jim Italy Todd

Todd's comments; "Italy will be playing in every game, pointing in turn due north to far east, with two runs at Moscow".

Round 5 - Division 2 - 1st Feb 2012
Home Player Home Country Away Player Away Country GM
Brian Turkey Josh Germany Todd
Jon Russia Greg England Steve
Jonathan Austria-Hungary Michael England Todd
Todd Italy Graeme Turkey Richard

Steve's comments; "A real mixed bag of matches this round. With Division 2 so hotly contested, it's great to see a number of match-ups which are usually close and rarely drawn. Should make for another exciting round of play".
