Rules & Maps

You'll see below a number of variant games & the reason there here is that they have been played on this site. Other variants, not played here yet, are on a page called, as the name suggests, Variant.

Avalon Hill Games Diplomacy rules will display the most up-to-date set. The rules haven't greatly altered however compared to my set of rules, which were within the board game I bought 20 years ago; they have altered in design & are easier to read. When clicking on the picture or underlined word, please bare in mind that they might take a short period of time to complete transmission.

Web rules as said are House Rules used on various Web Sites. Please don't think they alter the rules, as they don't! As said earlier, writing your orders, etc, is slightly different to F-F games as you are using e-mails to transmit your orders, etc. If having read them you think they're tricky, it does take a little time to get them right but equally there are certain articles to help you.

Pre-Sring 1901 shows you a map of Europe with armies & fleets in their positions. As which the comments about House Rules for sites, various colours are used throughout the world. The map shown is used in Britain & without knowing all of other countries, I know they aren't used in the U.S.

Maps with province is the same map used above but doesn't have the units but does shown the abbreviated provinces. Again as said above, various abbreviations are used but any link in 'Where to Play' use the same abbreviations shown.

'Admiral' Rules show what is required from players. Given that players' natural tongue isn't English, there are links from within that will show the rules in other languages. One thing to bear in mind is that the competition is played in English however as Gunboat doesn't allow normal conversations between players, the adjudication shouldn't stop anyone.

This page is the Intimate Diplomacy Rules & within it shows what is required from players in this variant. ID Rules

Blinded Blinded isn't being rude to those that are, just simply saying that units can't see provinces too far from them. They can see the province they're in plus those that are immediately beside them, e.g. A(Lon) can see what's in Yor, NTH, ENG & Wal but not thins like Edi, Lpl, Bre, etc. These can be played as a normal game but I prefer the Blinded Gunboat.

The only difference between a normal game & Crowded is that the latter has more countries, which are 11. The game can be played with players knowing each other or as a Crowded Gunboat. Crowded

Double Diplomacy is played by seven players on a normal map however each player has two countries under his belt but they're not alone with those countries.

Chaos has 34 players & at the start of the game, each player owns a single SC. Due to the nature of Europe, it was decided to simply ignore whether you've got a fleet or army & just class them as units.
